The Hummingbird curriculum is based on Britain’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Here we encourage learning and development through playing, exploring, activity, creativity and asking questions.
The first seven years of life are the most important for a child’s personality and critical thinking development. Any learning difficulties are flagged early on, and the children are taught how to adapt to maximise their potential.
The three prime areas of learning are: personal, social and emotional development; communication and language; and physical development. There are four further specific areas of learning: literacy; mathematics; expressive arts and design; and understanding the world.
Our kindergarten encourages the development of Executive Function (EF), the mental processes that enable us to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks successfully. While EF development is an ongoing process from in the womb to early adulthood, the golden period of development is during ages zero to seven. Emotion, self-control, flexibility, self-awareness and perseverance are fostered as the building blocks to happy, successful lives.
At Hummingbird, we believe in creating a positive interaction environment that nurtures a child’s core character. Behavioural reinforcement focuses on the good, with negative behaviours discouraged in a calm, rational and friendly manner. Consistency and boundaries are key, and being honest and respectful at all times encourages children to behave in the same manner in their daily interactions, respecting others and themselves. These attributes will stay with the children for life.
Learning is a 24-hour, 365-days-a-year endeavour, and we actively encourage parents to get involved in the process. Hummingbird hosts academic seminars on campus, and organises activities for parents and children throughout the year that foster quality family time.
While classes are held in English, our community is multicultural – and Thai language, culture and values are taught, as well as knowledge of other cultures. While recognising that each child is unique, we encourage understanding across cultures, lifestyles and faiths, producing a welcoming, diverse community of empathetic, open-minded individuals.
